The first virtual world from Eastern Europe: Sphere.

If you count the Middle Europe into tthe Eastern (I assume you do), actually the second. The first was (well, is) Mimesis Online http://217.96.41.97/mimesis/index.php. I don't claim Mimesis was an instant hit - I played the initial release and ran away screaming in terror after a week. It looked more like pre-alpha, content-wise, than ready product. But over the time they more or less completed it and now it's an stable, interesting MMORPG in SF setting.

I had no idea! Thanks for this link.
It seems like every week there is a new world that pops up from under the radar.

Framing effects! They are overjoyed with 15,000 subscribers. In the States, anything less than 100,000 is considered failure.
