Virtual Comedy Stages

Got an email (copied after the break) from a comedian seeking to drive traffic to a charity website. He and his buddies are playing games in Iron Man Mode: One death. Nice, funny premise. It's consistent with Yogscast, the effort by two Brits to perform through Minecraft. My kids watched Yogscast as much as they played the game. "O Lewis! O Simon! AHHHHHH" It was funny.

When serious game content goes over the top - see Tera - it's too, too funny to knock it down. Drives role-players mad, of course. In this ironic age, we're all looking for a lore we can believe in and whatever is produced is just not good enough for some people. So everything gets griefed. I suppose that's healthy.

Healthy or not, if we treat all virtual worlds and everything on the internet as sites for mockery, we do get a heck of a good laugh out of it. Just don't take yourself too seriously out there.

After the break, read the appeal from the Iron Man.

Hey Terra,

How's it going? I'm just getting in touch for a couple of reasons.

First up, while I admittedly only visit the site once in a while, I'm a fan of Terra Nova and wanted to reach out and give you an email high-five. I'm sure I'm not the first to say that I hope your services to gaming, entertainment and general geekery continue long into the future.

Secondly, I've got something here that may be mutually beneficial. I recently inherited two million Ugandan dollars and require your trust in transfe... no no no, don't worry. We're not going there!

Don't know if you've come across it yet, but Iron Man Mode is a comedy gaming site in which myself and a bunch of rock-star writers are raising money for Child's Play charity. We're playing a whole bunch of great games (both indy and mainstream) from Final Fantasy 7 to Minecraft and heaps in between. The twist is we play with only one life - once we're dead, the blog and game are completely over. Instantly.

It's more for fun than anything, but as mentioned, 100% of revenue raised goes to the Child's Play Charity. Donatees get free advertising, ultra-bizarre mystery gifts, and warm feelings. Details here:

If you are only willing and able to donate a single dollar, that's superb! We're very close to the target we set back in January and want to overshoot it and keep going. If not, no wozzas - even if you were to simply share the love on Terra Nova or anywhere else, that would also be really great of you.

Otherwise, just have a read and enjoy.

Thanks again mate. Take it easy in the mean time, and if there's anything I can do in return, just give me a shout.

Yours in Awesomeness,
